Sultan Ahmad Mosque inside Akhaltsikhe Castle
In the morning checked-out from the hostel in Tbilisi, took the metro to reach Didube Bus station. I had to go to Borjomi, found the Borjomi marshrutka at Nige marshrutka stand inside the Didube Bus station. Marshrutka departed at 9:15 AM, paid 12 GEL for the ride to Borjomi, reached Borjomi around 11:30 AM. Walked to the hostel, checked-in, ate food and got ready.
My plan was to go to Akhaltsikhe, I took a marshrutka from Borjomi to Akhaltsikhe for 5 GEL, and reached Akhaltsikhe Bus station around 2:20 PM. Walked to the Akhaltsikhe Castle, bought a ticket for visiting the beautiful Sultan Ahmad Mosque and the Citadel for 18 GEL.
Near the mosque there is a Madrasa, I spent around 2 hours to see the entire castle and climb the tower in the Citadel. Akhaltsikhe Castle is very beautiful and I enjoyed my time there. On my way back to Borjomi, I walked to Akhaltsikhe Bus station, bought a ticket to Borjomi for 5 GEL and also checked the timings of marshrutka from Akhaltsikhe to Vardzia, at the ticket counter.
The first marshrutka from Akhaltsikhe to Vardzia was at 10:30 AM and the last marshrutka from Vardzia to Akhaltsikhe was at 3 PM. I wanted to visit Vardzia the next day. Reached Borjomi, walked to the hostel, ate food, drank tea and called it a day.
